Workshop in Berlin with Gitte D. Fjordbo in 2012!!
the 24th -26th February
When conscious control is NOT an option..
& the "right thing" does NOT do itself...
What you may need is.. A Space of Essential Presence in Touch™.. The practical and theoretical work presented by Gitte D. Fjordbo at the Congress in Lugano 2011.
At this workshop in Berlin I, Gitte, will share my work through a mixture of practical experiences/ games, demonstrations and small doses of theory. We will talk about the early reflexes; what, how, why and when. We will, as and when appropriate, look for them in the individual workshop participants. - We will discuss and explore how and when influences from a compromised nervous-system may be working against the work of the Alexander Technique and also how and when we may be able to hold and address these reflex-influences through work with the Technique.
A Space of Essential Presence in TouchTM is of course about hands-on work, but also all other kinds of dimensions of 'touch'. It's about how we create the space in which we 'touch' other people and open up for others to touch us. We can 'touch' each other physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. All these dimensions are a part of my work whether I use a 'hands-on' or 'hands-off' approach. It is important to embrace all these dimensions in our work and I do it by at least being conscious of them in both myself and the people I encounter.
In the Technique we are working with energy. The same is true for Cranio-sacral therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Energy Healing, Chakra-work, and many other modalities! I'd like us to consider, discuss and explore in practical hands-on work:
Is there a particular Alexander-energy-touch?
What is the connection between dissociation and what I experience as chronic inhibition? I see it often in people working with the Technique and I perceive it as a limitation of the true potential of the AT.
A natural follow-on from this is the theme of our 'quality of presence in touch'. Since in the Technique we are 'holding space' for ourselves & for our pupils /clients /confidants, boundaries become very important to ourselves and those we 'touch'. I'd like to address the issue of boundaries.
In the Technique an important concept is; mind over matter. But is that always possible? In my experience our 'matter' often needs or at least greatly benefits from help and support from other modalities besides the Technique. Our biological structures have a hierarchical organisation (i.e. atoms, molecules, cells, tissue, organs, etc.) and our task as teachers of the Technique is to bridge the space between the more subtle dimension of mind or thought and the more dense dimension of the physical. In between the two is the dimension of emotion. How can we 'hold' these different dimensions or spaces for our fellow human beings and for ourselves in the best and most expanding and expansive ways?
How can we optimise the potential of the Technique by consciously holding these spaces?
There are so many fascinating and interesting themes to discuss and experiment with. The unfolding of this workshop will be interactive. A co-creation around some of these issues!
